As many may know, over a month ago, I lost my faithful companion of nearly 17 years, Mayday, my Cocker Spaniel. Needless to say, it has been rather difficult adjusting to the absence of her unconditional love, wagging of the tail, and sheer joy of her presence. However, GOD, so I’m told, works through the goodness of people, and I recently met an older woman in the pet store who reminded me that “a DOG is a gift from GOD, for which he gave his name (spelled backwards). Further, just as people come into your life for a reason and a season, so too does a pet. The challenge is to understand the reason, while cherishing the season.”
To that end, all the naysayer’s or people making the comment, “it’s just a dog, get over it.” I say, “Death is a heartache that you will forever feel. Love is a memory, which you can never steal.”
