Good food since 1939! |
The White Palace Grill, an urban retreat located in the University Village neighborhood, in Chicago, has been a landmark diner since 1939. Nestled on the corner of Roosevelt & Canal, it serves politicians, police officers, fire fighters, college students and more. I started eating breakfast at the swanky little diner 15 years ago and have become a regular ever since. The diner is open 24 hours a day, and the menu is extensive, which patrons can choose from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have witnessed the Mayor and other politicians enjoying a cup of coffee, and the Palace’s famous homemade ‘hash browns’ smothered with caramelized onions, and their distinctive ingredients. A dive to some, but proprietor George Liakopoulous says, “The affordable prices, good food, exceptional customer service, and a friendly atmosphere, is the reason the diner has outlasted so much glitz and glam eateries for over 70 years.” I ask the question: “When you live in a city filled with food, fun, and fanfare, what stands above the crowd?” I say easily excellent service and delicious food!
If visiting Chicago this spring or summer, check out the White Palace Grill, and order the Belgian waffles, they are to die for, to be sure! Check out this video. It speaks volumes to one of my favorite 'eateries' in Chi-town!
