State of the Union (2012)

History is a great barometer to assess the past, present, and the future of a nation. As such, I am reminded of my leadership class in graduate school and the professor speaking on the fall of two great nations, Rome and Greece. “Decadence, monetary debt, an overabundance of wars, quipped with a narcissistic, social-unjust society.” Does this sound familiar?

Tonight, President Obama will deliver his third “State of the Union” to the country and the world. Accordingly, the President’s speech in (PESTEL framework), communicates America’s vision in the 21st century, and how the country will play a pivotal role in a chaotic global economy, combined with a world vying for global power. I am not a big television viewer. In fact, I much rather read a good book, or in more prosperous times, travel the world to form my own opinion…of the world. However, I have always enjoyed tuning into the SOTU address because I think it provides an opportunity for the president to summarize his successes, failures, future vision, and overall leadership. President Obama is an excellent orator, and I hope that he communicates a truthful and relevant outlook to the American citizens, which resonate to the core values of each citizen in this great nation. Having said that, I have been a consistent critic of the president’s (supporting cast), and to put it bluntly, I am not supportive of some of his advisors…ADVICE! However, I was reminded this morning by one of the nation’s brightest and politically astute leaders, Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski that, “none of the current republican candidates speak to the issues affecting Americans as it relates to a realistic global crisis. Further, each republican candidate is spouting off about going to war with Iran, which is the job of the Congress, not a president, or in their case, candidates vying for the presidency.” Excellent point, Dr. Brzezinski, and clearly the republican candidates are not ready for primetime. Moreover, the republican candidates are ill-informed on the nation’s national security and foreign policy issues, and have no more a right to run for president than former republican candidates, Cain, Perry, and Bachman. Having said that, I hope the president’s speech to the nation tonight will put the country back on track, and not allow the 24/7 (IRRESPONSIBLE, WITLESS MEDIA), filled with bobble heads capitulating misinformed views to continue to denigrate the political process. Boy, I sure miss Tim Russert's unbiased political analysis (Rest in peace, Mr. Russert). Nevertheless, when the talking heads begin to dissect the presidents SOTU speech, my advice is to turn off the television and download Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski’s book “Strategic Vision (America and the Crisis of Global Power).” It is a fascinating read and speaks truth to reason, unlike the media bobble heads on television!

I'm just saying...
