According to the Department of Labor, "Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country." I ask the question: "With the national unemployment rate at 9.1%, and in some communities much higher, can the country really celebrate, and enjoy this Labor Day?"
Well, record high levels of unemployment is not to be celebrated, but certainly we can enjoy a day off with the family, reflect on the year, and hope for the best tomorrow.
Enjoy!
