Chicago, also known as ("The Windy City"), is the largest city in Illinois, and in the Midwest region with a population of three million. When one thinks of Chicago, they automatically think of Chicago politics, University of Chicago, the famous 'deep dish' pizza, TV mogul Oprah Winfrey, basketball great Michael Jordon and the Chicago Bulls, and other franchise sports teams like the Chicago White Sox, Black Hawks, Bears, and the Cubs. Conversely, Chicago is also known for the creation of blues music, and the famous Cadillac records where the incomparable Etta James got her start. Last, let us not forget the sultry musicians Sam Cooke and Nat King Cole. A beautiful city, consisting of 29 miles of Lake Front and 15 miles of public beach. In addition, it is famous for architecture like the Sears Tower, Wrigley Building, and The John Hancock. However, when I think of Chicago, I think of the creation of 'House Music'. House music is a genre of electronic dance music founded in Chicago in 1982 by Factory records. In fact, I graduated from high school in 1982, and I can remember the underground dance parties that I use to attend while traveling to and from Illinois State University. The beats were powerful, almost hypnotic, and strangely enough, obesity was not an issue in my neighborhood because of 'House Music.' The music became so infused in pop culture that it soon spread to Europe, and the dance culture worldwide. I ask the question: "how many people remember House Music DJ-'Larry Heard'?" Larry Heard, born and raised on the south side of Chicago music helped to calm my homesickness in my first year of college. I dedicate this song to I-State, and all my dance hall friends from the (Music Box, AKA's, Power Planet, and the Underground)! Thanks for helping me to stay a size 4-6 (lol). Unfamiliar, with House Music...Check out this 'OLD SKOOL' song (circa 1988)...Enjoy!
