Is an MBA embellishment or substantive? |
The importance of attaining a higher degree, and the discipline learned as an MBA student provides me the confidence to succeed in the business world. However, the MBA is not a guarantee that one will be the leader of a company. In fact, the three components required to be a great leader include past successes, self-awareness, and continuous intellectual curiosity. Subsequently, just because you are the leader of a company with an MBA, does not guarantee the company’s stock will sky rocket. As such, if one believes simply attaining an MBA will guarantee the job, you really have not learned much in business school. Conversely, one may argue that MBA’s are diluting the market, and real world job experience is lacking. To be sure, an MBA may be required in the finance and accounting sector, even the engineering and healthcare sector. However, it is my personal belief that solid work-experience is vital to any hiring manager. Therefore, if you are unemployed you might want to consider volunteering at a non-profit organization. In doing so, it provides you the skills and experience required to achieve an organizations business objectives. I ask the question: “What must you do to create your future career opportunities?”
