I wanted to blog about the title, 'MBA or NOT', on your business cards. It's a topic that I will visit sooner, rather than later because I will attain my graduate degree in less than 65 days. Nonetheless, there appears to be a debate brewing on the subject, and I am not quite sure if it is significant enough to write about. However, at the end of the day ensure that you conduct thorough research into the culture of the company that you pursue for employment. Moreover, do not let the online bloggers make the final judgement call as to how one proceeds with the branding of self, and the best practices associated with this topic. Conversely, I have assembled the top five reasons for or against, including the M.B.A. title on your business cards. You decide.
1. Having the title (MBA) on your business card makes you look "pretentious and irrelevant"
2. Only the professional titles PH.d, JD, and MD should be on business cards
3. The MBA degree should only go on the resume. If you want to stand out, let your work experience, and personality stand in the forefront, not your degree
4. You have worked diligently for the last two years, and earned the right to include MBA on your business cards
5. Have two sets (with and without) depending on the company, circumstances, and the industry
In my humble opinion, attaining an MBA is an achievement that demonstrates tenacity, perseverance, and academic scholastic. I have worked hard to earn the right to include my title on MY business card. After all, it is a networking tool. Notwithstanding, I think it depends on the persona that you are trying to portray. If you believe adding the MBA title will provide credence in your career journey, go for it! Just know that some recruiters, and hiring manager's may frown upon the M.B.A. title on business cards. Yup! Yet another barrier to enjoy in this 'jobless' recovery. Check out what the Wall Street Journal has to say on the matter. I ask the question: "why do people enjoy drinking 'HATERADE'?"
