So You Want To Pursue An MBA?

Increase your earning potential by attaining your MBA!

When I ran track in high school the only thing that I thought about when I took to the track, was winning. After all, I grew up in a time where second place was a consolation prize, but first place was the ultimate PRIZE! Nowadays, some coaches say, "everyone is a winner." Bull! There are winners, and there are losers. To prevent the ladder, one must have a 'first place' mind when pursuing your MBA. After all, competition is fierce, and only the strong will survive! As such, below are my 'Top Five' suggestions of what it takes to earn your MBA (and get to the 'WINNER' side). 1. Undergraduates, in the graduate program there is a tremendous amount of writing and one must have excellent grammar skills. Conversely, depending on the school, the writing format consists of APA, MLA, or Chicago style for essays, and research papers. In addition, it is useful to have a working knowledge of algebra, and calculus (math skills). As such, enroll in FREE workshops, hire a tutor, but do whatever is necessary to prepare for Accounting, Finance, Statistics, and Economics…the (quantitative classes). 2. In addition, the writing and math courses enhance your research capabilities. However, do not fall behind in the reading material. Moreover, to prevent falling behind, I suggest a speed reading class. 3. There is an old 'sales adage', "work a plan, and do not let the plan work you." Translation, Time Management! Let's face it; work, life, and graduate school can be quite difficult. Therefore, plan where, when, and how to study. Relentlessly track your plan. 4. Working in Learning Teams' can be extremely challenging for some students. The purpose is to prepare for the 'global economy' where one may supervise or work with a diverse group of people. Therefore, understanding the different backgrounds, cultures, and behaviors of people, is vital. The key is to remain flexible, and understand that CHANGE...is good! 5. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! This is a highly critical point because procrastination may prevent one from attending the school of choice. As such, meet all the deadlines for admission, financial aid, and the proper sequence of classes. In addition, attend the open houses because this will provide an opportunity to ask the pertinent questions about the MBA program. Again, start early and celebrate the 'first place' mentality and you will succeed. Remember, "winning is a matter of endurance. As long as you do not quit, you will win"!
