The first class mate that I met in graduate school was a young woman named Melissa Durham. I had no idea that Melissa and I would soon become trusted friends. As such, we had four things in common love of family, we both received undergraduate degrees from state schools, we both pledged Greek sororities in college, and we both wanted to do well with the MBA program; a recipe for success, right? Well, Melissa was 20+ years younger than I, but after talking to her briefly, I soon learned that she had (what we like to say at home), an ‘old soul’. I am so lucky to have met Melissa, and I consider her one of my dearest friends. Not to mention, the girl can create fierce PowerPoint presentations! Of course, throughout the program Melissa and I would participate on the same ‘Learning Teams’ and we excelled. I have learned so much from this young woman, and we truly executed as teammates. I guess my dad was right, "people can teach you two things...what to do, and what not to do." I ask the question: "Can diversity on your 'Learning Team,' help you to excel in your career?" If your answer is No, welcome to the new world! Check out the following site...some food for thought.
